Le télescope Hubble, qui pointe une portion apparemment vide de la carte du ciel, ouvre en 1995 de nouvelles fenêtres de perception sur des milliers de galaxies inconnues à ce jour. Depuis lors les frontières du perceptible ne cessent d’être repoussées et élargies, donnant lieu à de nouvelles preuves tangibles : découverte de la première exoplanète, première image du fond diffus cosmologique par le satellite Planck, découverte du Boson de Higgs, détections d’ondes gravitationnelles, photographie d’un trou noir. Tout un parcours se dessine de l’astrophysique à la physique quantique, de l’infiniment grand à l’infiniment petit.

Deep Fields réunit des artistes qui sondent et explorent les champs profonds : des paysages lointains et désertiques aux champs mobiles et instables de particules. Confrontés à l’irreprésentable et à l’invisible, ils interrogent la perception, sans cesse renvoyée à ses propres limites, à ses cadres et ses frontières. Leurs œuvres sont des traces d’événements, les échos matériels et psychiques d’horizons traversés, des champs d’énergie dont le corps reste partie prenante. Ce ne sont plus des objets isolés ni des images arrêtées, mais des oscillations de champs, des vibrations magnétiques et lumineuses. Deep Fields propose d’arpenter des territoires de la physique contemporaine, d’enquêter dans les marges du visible et de sortir des espaces de contrôle.

In 1995, the Hubble Telescope pointed to an apparently empty area of the sky and revealed thousands of previously unknown galaxies. Since then, the boundaries of what we can perceive have constantly been pushed back and expanded, providing new tangible evidence in the form of the discovery of the first exoplanet, the first image of the cosmic microwave background obtained by the Planck satellite, the discovery of the Higgs boson, the detection of gravitational waves and the first picture of a black hole. A journey is unfolding, spanning astrophysics and quantum physics, the infinitely large and the infinitely small.

Deep Fields brings together artists who explore deep fields, from distant desert landscapes to unstable, mobile fields of particles. Confronted with the unrepresentable and the invisible, the artists question perception, which is constantly referred back to its own limits, frameworks and boundaries. Their works are traces of events: the material and psychological echoes of horizons crossed and fields of energy in which the body remains integral. These are no longer isolated objects or static images, but rather the oscillations of fields and the magnetic and luminous vibrations of energy. Deep Fields invites us to explore the territories of contemporary physics and investigate the margins of the visible, encouraging us to step outside the spaces of control.
